The 16 personality types were created by Isabel Briggs Myers with the assistance of her mother, Katharine Briggs, who was a student of the personality theories of Carl Jung. Briggs identified four dimensions of personality, each of which described a dichotomy between two preferred ways of being. Myers created the descriptions of each of the sixteen types, and began the research that successfully associated personality type with a wide variety of life outcomes, including career choice, lifestyle, and relationship factors.
The personality profiles here are based on research from a variety of sources, including the original research done by Isabel Myers.
